Forum for Integrated Development (India)

Development that starts with what a community already knows.

Why “Chetna”

Awareness first, then action

Chetna — consciousness, awareness — is the idea that lasting change begins when a community sees its own situation clearly and chooses its own response. FFID’s role is to bring resources, technical knowledge and patient facilitation; the direction is set at the village level, through open gram sabha discussions rather than a plan arriving pre-written from a district office.

That sequence — awareness, deliberation, then action — is slower than handing out a ready-made scheme. It is also why the structures that get built tend to still be standing, and being maintained, years after the programme has moved on.

“When the well was ours to plan, we made sure it would last. That changed how we saw every project after.”
